SUMMARY OF COUNTY OFFICES
County Commission: * Allocate Funds * Approves and amends annual budget * Approves all General Revenue and Road & Bridge expenditures * Maintain county roads and bridges * Maintain county buildings * Environmental concerns * General services * Purchase of all county vehicles * Appoints citizens to various boards Assessor: * Assigns addresses * Maintains ownership records, valuations & maps * Conducts informal hearings * Set all real estate and personal property taxes on tax books at true market value * Defends all values on tax books Circuit Clerk: * Maintains all records of the Circuit Court * Filing, trials, and dispositions of all court cases: Traffic, Criminal, Civil, Probate, Juvenile, Domestic Relations * Judgement index * Child support records * Jury selection & records * Maintain probation records * Collect and disburse fines, costs, and restitution Record of Deeds: * Records documents pertaining to real estate * Maintains subdivision plats * Maintains Uniform Commercial Code, financing statements * Maintains military discharges * Marriage licenses are issued as well as recorded as permanent records County Clerk: * Maintains all County Commission records * Chief budget officer * Processes payroll for all County employees * Processes accounts payable for the County * Chief election official * Maintains voter registration rolls * Registers candidates filing for office * Issues liquor and auctioneer licenses * Issues notary commissions * Determines and certifies tax levy information * Prepares fuel ticket refunds * Prepares County financial statement Collector of Revenue: * Collects and distributes all personal and real estate taxes and other lawful taxes for political subdivisions within county governement * Issues County business licenses * Conducts back tax sales Prosecuting Attorney: * Prosecutes violators of the law (Felonies, Bad Checks, Misdemeanors, Traffic Citations, Non-Support Cases) * Legal advisor to the County and County Officials Public Administrator: * Administers estates and guardianship of indigents and conservatorships Coroner: * Investigates and rules ondeaths within the county when the need arises Treasurer: * Custodian of County revenues * maintain records and reports on revenues and expenditures Sheriff: * Chief law enforcement officer * Oversees jail, patrol of rural areas, civil process, court security, prisoner transportatin and extradition Circuit Court Judge: * Processes criminal and civil cases * Processess appeals from non-judicial decision making bodies * Oversees juvenile services * Oversees bailiffs * Salaries paid by State (office space and supplies paid by three counties in the circuit) Associate Circuit Judge: * Processes misdemeanors, traffic violations, preliminary hearings, landlord/tenant cases and cases assigned from Circuit Court, etc. * Processes small claims court cases (up to $3000) * Salaries paid by State (office space and supplies paid by County)
